Rich's thought for the day

  July 12

Check out my "Archives" from last 5 years.

Also, "My Favorite" web links to the right hand side of blog.

Working on contacting our 38 condo neighbors for an update and new photo for our Condo Picture Directory. Great way to "connect" with our neighbors.

First appointment this morning is with next door neighbor to our West at 10 and then with next door neighbor to our East. These are the easy ones. Left letter in mailboxes, some phone messages...now "cold calls".

"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." Colossians 3:12-14

Ambulances, hospitals, medical workers need safety to carry out their vital work in

"You have made known to me the path of lie; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand." Psalm 16:11

Alitle late for the day!

Received phone call at 6 a.m. from Red Cross to respond to fire in inner city.  Naomi & I Richard are on call today. Most Thursdays 5:30 a.m - 5:30 p.m

Thankfully no one was hurt.

DAT (Disaster Action Team)  of 4 helped 7 families. No renters insurance. Put up at local motel for 3 nights. Debit card for food based on size of family. Referred to other local agencies also.
Referred several families to Adullum Outreach in Milwaukee. A great inner city community outreach. Lots of resources for families.  Red Cross is in process of partnering with them in several areas. Red Cross gets people and companies that would like to donate material and supplies to them, but Red Cross does NOT have storage space, so this is a good organization to refer people to.  http://www.adullamoutreach.com/more/the-vision/community-resource-center.html

People were very grateful for the help we could give them.

After finishing up at the site Naomi and I went to the Red Cross office to start the process to get all this info into the computers.

On the way home we dropped off some Tenant info for the people at the motel.

Left and went home  (1 pm) for something to eat and wait for whatever else might happen today. On Call on 5:30

Just a few "posts" I made on Twitter this morning.

"So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith" Gal. 6:10

"Technology allows us to interact with people digitally without ever really getting to know them." Jim Daly.

"You can't live the Christian life without a band of Christian friends, without a family of believers in which you find a place." Tim Keller

Just got home from playing golf with Tom and Joe. New course. Worst game I ever played.
I know why. I don't have a competitive "Strength" or "Competition".  Strengthfinders.2.0 Assessment.
My top 5 are Connectedness, Belief, Achievement, Responsibility and Relator.
34 "Strengths. No right ones. We are all different.

Competition or Competitive is probably the last one. No matter how many golf lessons or personal training, competition does NOT come naturally. Will never have a great improvement. That's ok.
We should be doing things we enjoy and do well. Check out http://strengths.gallup.com/110440/About-StrengthsFinder-20.aspx

 July 8th:

Just a few "Posts" I have made on TWITTER this morning.

"I have held many things in my hands, and I have lost them all; but whatever I have placed in God's hands, that I still possess." Martin Luther

Salvation is a free gift of God, NOT of works. Ephesians 2:8-9. God has prepared good works for us to do, after salvation.

Verse 10: "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

God Knows Your Purpose. Do you?

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a purpose." Jeremiah 29:11

Prayer: "And when you pray to God regularly, irregular things happen on a regular basis. You never know when or where or how God will invade the routine of your life, but you can live in holy anticipation, knowing that God is orchestrating supernatural synchronicities." Draw the Circle. "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality." Romans 12:12-13 NIV

Heard a 20 minute chapel message  on this one verse at Concordia U in Mequon a few years ago...by Pastor Ferry. Just happened to stop in for something at the time. Something about Neighborhood Transformation. http://www.neighborhoodtransformation.net/

I have that one "Circled" !
Good book on prayer. The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson

"The purpose of prayer is  not to give orders to God; the purpose is to get orders from God."
Mark Batterson.  Author of The Circle Maker and Draw the Circle.

July 6th:

Psalms 37:23-26 NKJV
"The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord , And He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the Lord upholds him with His hand. I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread. He is ever merciful, and lends; And his descendants are blessed."

"In his heart a man plans his course; but the LORD determines his steps." Proverbs 16:9 NIV

I make plans but the Lord directs my steps! That's my prayer for each day!
Be prepared and be flexible.   That's one thing I learned from the Red Cross.
When on call each Thursday, we don't know what the day will bring, but it's in the inner city.
Meeting people we would never otherwise see.

Some practical ways to love our neighbors. Thanks J.C. Heiden, Pastor of Neighborhood Transformation. Eastbrook Church.  http://joshreeves.tumblr.com/page/2

July 5th:
"You can play golf on your own-but it is better played with friends You can worship on your own-but it is better shared with God's people. It is how you say "Thank you" to the God who saved you."
June 25. The One Year Devotions for Men. Stuart Briscoe

Yes, I've played golf alone. Then it's all about me. There may be a time for that...but after awhile one get's out of balance. There is no JOY. Jesus, Others, You (me). Just my thought and belief.
Just like the Trinity. Can't have one without the other. All three. Then there is Shalom!

Look at J.O.Y  as three interlocking circles. Where they intersect there is real joy!
Jesus, Others, Yourself(me) in that particular order.

Then there is real joy!

Have a great day. DAY.
