We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord...MILWAUKEE EXPLO 72 (updated 4/5/2017)

This song was sort of an anthem among the Jesus People in the '60s and '70s,

I first heard and sang this song in the early 70's.
CCC. Campus Crusade had an event in Dallas Texas called Dallas "Explo 72"
Some Milwaukee friends attended this and came back to Milwaukee all excited with new life in the Lord. We then put on a similar event in Milwaukee: EXPLO Comes to Milwaukee.

Peter Briscoe quoted these verses today in his Experiencing Life Today Devotional.
Haven't heard the song in the past 14 or so years.
I googled it and found this video

Impact of Dallas Explo on Milwaukee!

August 19, 1972

Note the date Saturday, July 22, 1972 Milwaukee Sentinel
Found in my old files. I'm glad I'm a saver... Thanks Lauri (Reporter for Milwaukee Sentinel at the time) and a believer! for the great write up.  Yes, it's all about relationships!

Campus Crusade for Christ staff from Madison, Eau Claire, Whitewater and La Crosse presented messages on "How to Experience God's Love and Forgiveness," "How to be Filled with and Walk in and Witness in the Holy Spirit" and "How to Help Fulfill the Great Commission of Christ"

As a result, 565 young people were trained, 250 mostly high school age, some in college and a few in their 60's went out and visited homes in designated neighborhoods to share the Four Spiritual Laws booklet...after being trained in 6 churches in Wauwatosa.

Info taken from BACKGROUND INFORMATION-MILWAUKEE EXPLO

 When and Where:
Our Training Center: 7430 W. Harwood Ave and adjacent buildings. Dates: August 17-19th. Training sessions on Thursday and Friday evenings and Saturday morning: sharing Christ around Milwaukee Saturday afternoon, and music festival with testimonies Saturday night.

Why:
Dallas Explo was only meant as a beginning of a world wide spiritual explosion for Jesus Christ. Many states had followup conferences planned so that those who  had gone to Explo could bring five more people for training, but no conference was planned for the Milwaukee area because there were no Campus Crusade for Christ staff assigned here. On July 12th, after a month in prayer about this need, four laymen found they shared the assurance that it was God's will for an Explo-conference to take place in Milwaukee. Since that time, the provision of initial needs has been taken as a confirmation that the decision to go ahead was in God's will.

Size:
We are praying for 1000 registrations. That means 70-100 action group leaders are needed. Room for 5-10,000 people for the music festival. Budget is $1,000. The conference is being provided for youth, but there will be conference sessions for all ages, from Jr. high through adult. Registration fee is $3.00. Admission to sessions will be by ticket.

What:
The training sessions will include praise(including music) and prayer. The message will be presented by Wisconsin Campus Crusade staff. Groups of 10 to 15 people will be formed to discuss the transferable concepts.
Since we are using the EXPLO name, we will be faithful to the Campus Crusade for Christ approach to discipleship for witnessing, as embodied in the nine "Transferable Concepts." Teaching content will be the Biblical Truths concerning experiencing God's love and forgiveness through Christ in the daily Christian walk, and the need for the Holy Spirit's power for obedience and witnessing; also practical suggestions for sharing Christ using the booklet, "The Four Spiritual laws."

Purpose:
Only to provide a follow-up to EXPLO 72.
No permanent organization is planned. Follow-up for those who receive Christ to be handled through local churches. The conference is not meant to compete with any church's program, but to provide and experience for youth that will encourage them to take an active role where God has placed them.

Prayer;
This conference was begun in prayer and must be brought to completion by a complete dependence on God's leading and provision as each specific need is brought to Him. Everyone who went to EXPLO is challenged to pray that God would reach five people through him to attend Milwaukee EXPLO.

A weekly newsletter and prayer list will be available to all who wat to share the opportunity of reaching Milwaukee for Christ through Milwaukee EXPLO.

Jesus People USA (JPUSA) is a Christian intentional community of 400 people [1] in Uptown, on the North Side of Chicago, Illinois. It was founded in 1972,[2] coming out of Jesus People Milwaukee in the Jesus Movement, it is the largest of the few remaining communes from that movement. In 1989, JPUSA joined the Evangelical Covenant Church[3] as a member congregation, and currently has eight pastors credentialed with the ECC. The community organized the former annual Cornerstone Festival from 1984 until 2012.[4]

A good book that was published at the time. Worth a read!

  1. Dear Dick, I have tried to post this response to your blog twice but it will not publish. Here is my comment -- maybe you can fin da way to add it. Jim

Going to Dallas in 1972 and then taking part in Milwaukee Explo remains a highlight of my life. The oneness of mind reached as we submitted each problem to prayer together remains a model for me of what prayer can be. Finding ways to share faith naturally in conversation has remained a life-priority for me. Jim Found, at website foundbytes.com

  5. Dick, Could you put it in for me? The planning meetings were unbelievable! We stopped and prayed about every detail that came up. They ended up being prayer meetings! What a wonderful experience it was. Hibb Wiedenkeller
